Preventative Maintenance

Operation Instructions:

• Before operating any Golf Vehicle, read all warning labels and the owner
• manual, if applicable.
• Except where permitted by law, Never drive on public roads.
• Operators should have a valid drivers license.
• Do not operate any vehicle unless all occupants are properly seated and holding on. Driver and passengers must keep entire body inside vehicle while moving.
• Operate vehicles only from the drivers seat.
• Always drive slowly in congested areas, on wet or loose terrain, and when backing up.
• Drive slowly when turning and avoid sudden stops.
• Always drive straight up and down slopes. Do not coast, use brake when going down a slope.
• Always fully engage parking brake and remove the key before leaving the vehicle.
• ALWAYS bring vehicle to a complete stop before shifting the direction selector.
• To safely start a vehicle, turn the key to on select forward or reverse release the parking brake then slowly depress the accelerator pedal.
• Never drive any vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol
• Never leave children unattended or allow children to play on the vehicle.
• Never leave the key in the vehicle when parked.
• Never carry more than two occupants on each bench seat.
• Never alter a vehicle to increase travel speeds above factory specifications.
• State law or local rules may require additional equipment before a vehicle can be operated in your community.

Charging Your Golf Cart:

• Before charging the batteries, inspect the plug of the battery charger and vehicle receptacle housing for dirt/debris.Inspect cart and charger for proper operating conditions before charging.
• Verify charge has been completed before putting vehicle in service.

Warning: Overcharging could cause damage to the vehicle batteries and result in extreme overheating. The charger should be checked after 24 hours and unplugged after the charge cycle is complete.

Also, Action Golf Carts Rentals and Sales is not responsible for poor wire circuit design, building design, AC line voltage spikes, or poor quality electrical power that supplies the storage facility.

Battery Watering Procedure:

(Flooded batteries only) Flooded batteries require water and the watering must be done at the correct time and in the correct amounts or else the batteries performance and longevity suffers. Water must always be added after the cart or batteries are fully charged. If the battery has been discharged to any degree, the water level should also be above the plates in the batteries. Keeping the water at the correct level after a full charge will prevent having to worry about the water levels at a different state of charge. It is recommended that the batteries be checked and filled to the proper levels at the minimum of once a month.

Step by Step Watering Procedure: (Remember to Always Wear Clear Lens Eye Protection)

• Open the vent cap and look inside the fill wells.
• Check electrolyte levels; the minimum level is at the top of the plates.
• If necessary add just enough water to cover the plates at this time.
• Put batteries on a complete charge before adding any additional water.
• Once the charging cycle is complete, open the vent caps and look inside of the fill wells.
• Add water until the electrolyte level is 1/8" to 1/4" below the bottom of the fill well.
• Clean, replace and tighten all the vent caps
  Warning: Never add acid to a battery!!

Important Things to Remember:

• Do not let the plates get exposed to air. This will damage (corrode) the plates inside the batteries.
• Do not fill the water levels in the filling well to the cap. This most likely will cause the battery to overflow acid, consequently losing capacity and causing a corrosive mess.
• Do not use water with a high mineral content. Use distilled or deionized water only.

Caution: The electrolyte is a solution of acid and water so skin contact should be avoided

Battery Cleaning Procedure:

Batteries attract dust, dirt and grime. Keeping them clean will help trouble shoot signs if they appear and avoid problems associated with not being clean.

• First, check that the vent caps are tightly in place.
• Clean the battery top with a cloth or brush and a solution of baking soda and water. When cleaning it is very important to not allow any cleaning solution, or other foreign matter/objects to get inside the battery.
• Rinse with water and dry with a clean cloth.
• Clean battery terminals using battery terminal cleaner solution. Clean terminals will have a bright metallic shine.
• Keep the areas around the batteries clean and dry.

Tire Pressure:

Note: Tire Pressure is very important on electric golf carts. Low tire pressure can lessen the life on your batteries, increases friction which can cause electrical issues. Proper tire pressure (PSI) for your golf cart can be located on the side walls of the tires.

Use caution when inflating tires. Due to the low volume of the small tires, over inflation can occur very quickly. Tire inflation should be determined by the condition of the terrain. For grassy areas, on hard turf, it is desirable to have a slightly higher inflation pressure than on very soft turf, where a lower pressure would reduce the possibility of tires cutting into the turf. For vehicles being used on paved or hard surfaces, tire inflation pressure should be in the higher allowable range, but under no condition should inflation pressure be higher than recommended on the tire sidewall. All four tires should have the same pressure for optimum handling characteristics.

Safety:

• Overfilling batteries may result in electrolyte being expelled from the battery during the charge cycle. Expelled electrolyte may cause damage to the vehicle or storage facility.
• Aerosol containers of battery terminal protectant must be used with extreme care
• Insulate metal container to prevent can from contacting battery terminals which could result in an explosion.
• Wrap wrenches with vinyl tape to prevent the possibility of dropped wrench from shorting out a battery, which could result in an explosion and severe personal injury or death.
• Batteries are heavy. Use proper lifting techniques when moving them. Always lift the battery with a commercially available battery lifting device. Use care not to tip batteries when removing or installing them; spilled electrolyte can cause burns and damage.
• The Electrolyte in a storage battery is an acid solution which can cause severe burns to the skin and eyes. Treat all electrolyte spills to the body and eyes with extended flushing with clear water. Contact a physician immediately.
• Always wear a safety shield or approved safety goggles when adding water or charging batteries.
• Any electrolyte spills should be neutralized with a solution of ¼ cup of baking soda dissolved in 1 ½ gallons of water and flushed with water.

Warning: To prevent battery explosion that could result in severe personal injury or death, keep all smoking material, open flames or sparks away from the batteries. Hydrogen gas is formed when charging batteries. Do not charge batteries without adequate ventilation. A 4% concentration of hydrogen gas is explosive. Be sure that the key switch is off and all electrical accessories are turned off before starting work on the vehicle. Never disconnect a circuit under load at a battery terminal.
